Wednesday Night Baseball

Matt Cain (4-5, 5.20 ERA) faces Claudio Vargas (6-3, 5.34 ERA)

Can Vargas get a win? He gave up a first-inning HR to Steve Finley but looks like he is settling down nicely.

I will put on some more thoughts later.

Top second - Shawn Green hits a 2-0 fastball into deep left center field for a 2 run HR, his 5th and first since May 29th (at the Reds).

Looks like we lost big. I turned the game off in the 6th as Vargas started to weeble and wobble, and fell asleep. Bonds apparently hit #717 off Valverde.

Vargas is now 6-4.

4 runs off Valverde in the 9th. Ouch.

Finley's HR was his 300th of his career, and some of his old D-Backs were respectfully acknowledging of that. Matt Williams, filling in for Candiotti on KTAR, especially had some good words as I recall.

Better luck Thursday as a win would be good going into interleague play against the hot Texas Rangers in hot, humid Arlington.

I lived in Dallas almost 2 years (10/2002-4/2004) and never got to see a Rangers game in person, as Arlington is not served by the area's public bus system - and I don't own a car.
